Veas Marked has established Hoop CO2 AS, for the capture, refining and sale of bio-CO2 to the food and beverage industry. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Veas Marked, and is headed by Kjetil Wang-Hansen.
- Veas is a circular company that wants to create new value from the resources in wastewater.CO2 is currently a by-product of the biogas from the treatment plant. With HoopCO2, we will capture bio-CO2 and turn it into a clean, green quality product," says Ragnhild Borchgrevink, CEO of Veas and chair of the board of the new subsidiary.
Veas Marked started commercializing the biogas from the treatment plant at Slemmestad in 2017, and today produces 5,000 tonnes of liquid biogas (LBG). Veas has long been working on solutions to separateCO2 from the methane. Completely purified bio-CO2 is of food grade quality and will thus be able to replaceCO2 produced from fossil sources in beverages, greenhouses, slaughterhouses and more.
Hoop CO2 is now starting the work of finding technical suppliers and partners for the construction of the first refinery in connection with the biogas plant at Veas.
- We're starting at Slemmestad, but the technology makes it possible to connect to other biogas plants in Europe, close to major customers. We have already started the dialog with food and beverage producers who are looking for green solutions in their value chain," says Kjetil Wang-Hansen, CEO of Hoop CO2.
The name of the new subsidiary was launched in connection with the Fjord Rescue Conference 2023. At last year's conference, Veas served beer with bio-CO2.
